WhatsApp Will Stop Working On These Smartphones After January 31: All You Need To Know

Update WhatsApp

As of January 31, WhatsApp will stop working on some mobile devices. This is because the continuous updates of the app exceed the technical requirements of some phones.

For instance, since last July, Windows Phone can never again utilize or download the messaging application from the reins of Microsoft, and now it is the turn of all those mobiles that have the Android 2.3.7 operating system installed. or earlier versions. The iPhone that works with iOS 8 will also be added to this group.

From February 1, the application can be installed and continue to use with all its features on Android gadgets with operating system 4.0.3 or later and on iPhone with iOS 9 or later. Also on some phones with KaiOS2.5.1 or later operating system, including the JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

In an announcement, the company indicates that “because we are no longer developing the application for these operating systems, some of the functions may stop working at any time. As of December 31, 2019 you will not be able to continue using WhatsApp on any gadget with Windows Phone operating system. ”

The deadline to continue using the application on iOS 8 and Android 2.3.7 is February 1. This implies that models that do not have the latest versions of their operating systems will run out of service. This is the case of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Sony’s Xperia S and the iPhone 4.

The company additionally helps WhatsApp users to remember the requirement for phones to have a functioning SIM card so as to get a SMS or a call during the verification procedure, necessary to have an account. In the statement, the company also warns that it does not explicitly restrict the use of unlocked or unlocked phones or if “due to changes in iPhone functionality caused by these modifications, we cannot offer support if the iPhone has a version of the modified operating system ”.
